Matakana Island Kayak and Horse Riding Adventure

On the day of your adventure we will pick you up from your accommodation in the Tauranga area and take you to the place where we will be launching our kayaks. Matakana Island is only a short distance from the mainland and is only accessible by air and water. The island is privately owned and unless you get permission you can go no further than the high-tide mark. So this is an exclusive experience and you will get to see the island in ways that few ever will! You will receive a full safety briefing and set of instructions before being set up in your kayak. After kayaking for between 30 – 60 minutes we will arrive at Matakana Island. You will be greeted by your local Matakana guide who will take you on a special tour that offers a unique insight into the lives of the people in the local community. You will also choose to participate in a Clydesdale-drawn carriage ride – used not so long ago to transport children to school – or go on the island’s horse trek adventure. Matakana Island is home to the endangered New Zealand dotterel. Its shoreline is rich in wildlife and deserted golden sandy beaches offer safe swimming. Matakana Island is also known for being home to the fastest-growing pine trees in the world! It is a privilege just to step onto Matakana Island, not to mention being hosted, shown locations that very few ever get to see and getting an inside look into life on the island. Matakana Island is a treasure to behold, being there is like receiving a rare gift!
