Canyoning For Two - Full Day (Auckland)

The Piha Canyon... is only forty minutes drive from Auckland in the Waitakere Park Ranges. We will either pick you up from Auckland or meet you out there, at the Piha General Store. Once there, suiting-up in full length wetsuits, harnesses and helmets - the idea of spending the day exploring your way through steep mountain streams becomes a pleasing reality. Start your canyon experience... over the 90 metre cascading Kitekite Falls; abseiling under showering waterfalls separated by tranquil pools of blues and greens. Jumps, caves and slides will be your means to explore a canyon rich with the historic pioneering logging dams of 100 years ago! Best of all, all the caves and jumps are optional – you choose the level of adventure for yourself! A no-rush explore at your own pace adventure to gain access to hidden pools and mysterious water sculptured gorges. The beauty of the canyon almost defies description! This journey... explores an environment otherwise inaccessible, last visited by the pioneers as the worked the canyon 100 years ago. Harvesting the mighty Kauri logs and flushing them from the hills via dam releases. Some of the old logs remain embedded in the canyon. Lunch... is had on the way down the canyon, taking time out gives you a chance to see an environment of ferns and mosses and palms struggling to survive on the steep walls of the canyon. After lunch descending further into the canyon is a constant discovery of otherwise unreachable views and majestic spots. Continuing through tunnels, over boulders and under logs, you may test your courage by jumping into plunge pools and abseiling right into waterfalls. The last jump... (or abseil) - and suddenly you're out of the canyon, back to the world we live in, but feeling refreshed in spirit!
